Very Unusual, Superbly Carved 14K White Gold and Shell Antique Cameo Brooch. An overwhelming majority of antique brooches borrow from the Neo-Classical period with stoic goddesses of various mythologies. This particular style cameo we rarely see. A "contemporary", for the time, carving of a graceful woman in her 1900-1910 finery with a lovely hat with large brim that drops to the back. Adding immeasurably is the addition of a necklace having a tiny Old European cut accent diamond for a touch of sparkle. Note how the hat appears to be quite sheer simply by the gradation of white outer shell carved away to reveal the salmon brown inner shell. Superb work. 2.25 x 2" Total gross weight is 15.44 grams. Can be worn as a brooch or a pendant necklace. Estimated Value $500 - 800
