Jules Chéret Collection of French Artists During Belle Époque, Paris. Plate 194 "Exposition de Charlet and Plate 183 "Amieux-Freres. Maîtres de l'Affiche (Masters of the Poster) refers to 256 color lithographic plates used to create an art publication during the Belle Époque in Paris, France. The collection, reproduced the original works of ninety-seven artists in a smaller 11 x 15" inch lithographs. One of the most important series of folios highlighting the brilliant illustrators of the time curated by the "father of poster art", Jules Chéret. All lithographs have the blind embossed Maîtres de l'Affiche pressing in lower right corners.
1.) "Exposition de Charlet" by Adolphe Willette and exposition advertising for Nicolas Touissaint, Charlet, a romantic-era illustrator of the Napoleonic Wars. As you can see Willet is poking fun at Charlet with the old soldier saluting a young man being mocked by a woman blouse completely open. In very good condition with archival tape across top border and two thin strips on verso holding in check tiny splits.
2.) Amieux-Freres by Georges Fay. Extremely colorful advertisement for Amieux-Freres which is still in business today. Initially a sardine packing company which is what is being advertised here showing the freshness of their product directly from the sea. This piece is in excellent condition even with the small chip in right side border. Amazing colors and design.
