Robert Southey: Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom, Three (3) Autographed Letters Signed (1774-1843) Oxford educated, romantic poet and like Wordsworth and Coleridge slanted toward conservatism in their politics and views leaving behind youthful radicalism. These shifts while financially rewarding, he became the target of critics including Byron and suffice to say, the attacks were noxious and caustic.
Three ALS by Southey but the focus is on one, the single page undated manuscript. Southey writes at top "Lines composed for Lady Shannon ----- "Invitation from the Persian". He addressed the Lord, acknowledging human limitations and lays out requests before the Lord including My sins & any contention" This likely a handwritten transcription of his own work or indeed a poem to Lady Shannon. The other two ALS one dated 1826 the other 1837 are simple, general correspondence.
