Clayton Pond. "Finding A Cure For Cancer". Clayton Pond (b. 1941) was among the first artists to employ silkscreen printing in a fresh, distinctly personal way. His limited edition silkscreen prints are immediately recognizable for their bright, cheerful colors with a shine as if the inks were still wet. In the early 1980s, he was commissioned by the NASA Art Program along with other American greats, and created a series of silkscreens for the Space Shuttle program. His works have been displayed on more than one occasion at The National Air and Space Museum and have proven immensely popular. "Finding A Cure For Cancer", the artist, who loves a good pun, mixes metaphors for medical science and astrology. With the breaking of the image area borders and the shadow effects, the Crab appears to float toward the viewer and off the surface of the print.
