Two Rare 510 Million Year Old Petaloid Jellyfish. The largest and best- preserved jellyfish come from the 510 million year old Mt. Simon-Wonewoc Wisconsin sandstone. This large 9 1/2 X 11 ½ inch slab contains two rare flower shaped Medusina costata jellyfish. These petaloid jellies are 4 inches and 3 inches in diameter each having eight petals. Jellyfish are rarely preserved as fossils because their soft gelatinous bodies do not become fossils unlike solid bones. These unusual shaped jellyfish might be a new genus of jellyfish or perhaps some other type of animal. Estimated Value $400 - 500
