Denis Diderot Les Bijoux Indiscretes; Two Part Publication Printed in 1771. One of the Most Scandalous Works of the Libertine Period. Originally published in 1741 anonymously, this bawdy series of scandalous tales explored issues of morality, social critique, desire and truth. A Sultan was given a ring by a Genie that caused women's genitals to speak. Not surprisingly this was a big hit. Worth noting the small sizes of these two books allowed a reader to discretely read and if necessary, hide in a pocket against disapproving eyes. Books are in antique condition, intact, unrestored. On the title page, in quill pen Diderot's name is between Indiscrets and Premiere Partie. Also on facing page, it is numbered No. 498. The second volume is in similar condition.
