Major William North: Autographed Letter Signed Dated 1803 Regarding his Father In-Law's Estate, James Duane + Second Signed Document 1791 (1755-1836) Maj. William North Served in The Continental Army under Benedict Arnold and was appointed by Act of Congress a Major in the 2nd United States Regiment on October 20, 1786. He assisted Inspector General Alexander Hamilton's attempt at reforming and strengthening the army. George Washington included North "among the most intelligent and active Officers of the late American Army" and to that end appointed as a Federalist to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of John Sloss Hobart.
Offered is an autographed letter signed dated 1803 from his home in Duanesburg (which is now listed on the National Register of Historic Homes) regarding his father in-law's estate, Judge James Duane. 8 x 6.5" on laid paper and in excellent condition. The second document, North has signed his name with nine others certifying a vote count, professionally stabilized by a paper conservator. 13 x 8" and in fine + condition.
