Babe Ruth: Extremely Clean, Rare, Signed First Flight Air Mail Service from Rochester, Minnesota Dated 1930 to Ruth Himself (1895-1948) The most famous name in Baseball, George Herman "Babe" Ruth was voted into the first Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. His legendary status has never been stronger, his signature remains a great prize for any level of collector. Offered is likely a one-of-a-kind signed piece. In the late 1920s and early 1930s the idea of airmail service in A and B markets was a cause for celebration. Mail sent on these first flights were stamped to acknowledge their status and usually signed by the pilot. These covers then in turn went into philatelic collections but some were used as premiums to obtain autographs. This cover flew on March 8 1930, the "Twin Cities Flight" as it is referenced on a large stamp on verso. Babe Ruth was the recipient of this cover whereupon he sent back in an other envelope to the sender (possibly the Williams signature). At any rate these first flight covers were prized which in turn a baseball legend, a movie star, a politician were far, far more inclined to execute an authentic signature.
