1837. No stars, small date. PCGS graded MS-66+. CAC. Premium Quality confirmed. Needle sharp strike with gorgeous delicate pastel green, yellow and blue toning on both sides. An important and short lived (less than two years!) type coin, with the obverse depicting the first appearance on half dimes of the Liberty Seated design, with date below and no stars on the obverse. The reverse with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at the rim, above the open laurel wreath with fruit, with the center stating the denomination for the first time as HALF DIME instead of 5 C. as seen on the previous design of the Capped Bust style. After a brief foray into the channels of commerece, the design was changed to include 13 stars on the obverse, hence creating this short lived and important Gobrecht designed type coin. This is clearly one of the finer examples technically known today of this design, and certainly one of the most attractive for its elegant toning.
